International Reflux Clinic of Budapest

Comprehensive, premium care beyond symptom control

Heartburn again? Burning pain at night? Sore throat? Upper respiratory tract infections? Sinusitis?

Chronic acid reflux (GERD) is more than heartburn. It can cause daily discomfort, breathing issues, swallowing difficulties, and long-term damage to the esophagus and airways.

Many of our patients suffer from “silent reflux” or laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR). They experience sore throat, sinusitis, and frequent inflammation of the upper respiratory track.  Either way we offer a long-term solution with our personalized treatment options.

We don’t mask symptoms with medication: we treat the underlying cause of reflux.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I’m a candidate?
If you have chronic reflux symptoms, rely on medication long-term, or have persistent discomfort despite treatment, you are likely a candidate for evaluation.

How long does recovery take?
Most patients return to normal daily activity within a few days after surgery. Full recovery and diet normalisation typically occur gradually over several weeks, guided by our team.

Is the treatment painful?
Minimally invasive techniques mean minimal discomfort. Most patients describe the recovery as surprisingly easy and controlled.

Do I need to stay in Budapest long?
International patients usually stay 2-4 days. Our international coordinator helps arrange travel and accommodation.

Beyond Reflux: other indications we treat

As experts of the upper digestive system, we diagnose and treat many of the illnesses other clinics often lack the required expertise. Some examples:

  • Gastroparesis or gastric emptying problem
  • Congenital inlet patch (CIP)
  • Esophagus stenosis
  • Motility problems of esophagus e.g.  Achalasia
  • Early stages of neoplasia

Unique procedures

Beyond advanced reflux surgery, our center offers uniquely comprehensive treatment options for complex upper gastrointestinal disorders — unmatched in Central Europe.

We perform Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) therapy for conditions such as Congenital Inlet Patch (CIP), Barrett’s esophagus, and selected early esophageal neoplasms, providing patients with organ-preserving, minimally invasive therapeutic alternatives.

Another specialized field is the diagnosis and treatment of gastroparesis, a severe stomach-emptying disorder that often affects individuals with advanced diabetes or may develop as a complication after poorly performed reflux surgery. Our multidisciplinary approach and tailored interventions (including minimally invasive solutions) allow us to restore gastric function and significantly improve quality of life.

We also treat complex esophageal motility disorders, most notably achalasia, characterized by difficulty swallowing, chest pain, and food regurgitation due to impaired esophageal muscle function. Depending on the case, we offer endoscopic dilation or surgical therapy to relieve symptoms and normalize swallowing function.

We not only carry our primary surgeries but also many of our patients turn to us for help after their less successful first surgery done in other institution. Reoperations and revisional surgeries are often more complex procedures, and we are experts at helping in these challenging situations.

At Reflux Clinic, patients have access to highly specialized procedures rarely available elsewhere: ensuring precision diagnosis, modern therapeutic options, and long-term outcomes.
